M+A Partners’ Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Committee delivers a year-round programme of volunteering, fundraising, and community support, enabling the firm to champion meaningful causes across the region and actively engage with the communities in which it operates.
Volunteer Days
2025 proved to be a particularly busy and rewarding year for the firm’s regular Volunteer Days – these kicked off at Carrow Road, supporting the Community Sports Foundation, during which the team renovated their education suite. Further Volunteer Days saw colleagues support Nelson’s Journey, preparing resources and packing Smiles & Tears boxes, and Break, where hands-on tasks ranged from gardening and construction to painting and repairs.
Despite soaring summer temperatures in August, volunteers assisted PACT Animal Sanctuary, carefully carrying out tasks to ensure the comfort and wellbeing of the animals, from cleaning kennels to food preparation. From one of the hottest days of the year to one of the wettest, the team then supported Samaritan’s Baton of Hope in September, welcoming the UK’s largest suicide prevention initiative to Norwich as part of its nationwide tour.
The final Volunteer Day of the year coincided with Breast Reconstruction Awareness (BRA) Day in October, during which volunteers supported Keeping Abreast at Marks & Spencer in Norwich, helping to raise awareness, funds, and share vital information.
It was inspiring to see so many colleagues actively taking part in these Volunteer Days. Several team members shared their experiences:
Partner Scott Lindsay, reflecting on his day with Nelson’s Journey, said: “Stepping away from our usual routines to support such a valuable cause was a very rewarding experience. I enjoyed the opportunity of working with colleagues from different offices and departments with the understanding that our efforts could bring comfort to those navigating loss.”
Chartered Tax Adviser Eddie Webster shared his thoughts following his day with PACT: “Volunteer Days give us a chance to step into a very different environment from our usual work. The sanctuary provides invaluable support to Norfolk’s animals and wildlife, and it was rewarding to be so hands-on in our efforts.”
Chanelle Athow, Chartered Accountant at M+A Partners, shared her experience supporting Keeping Abreast: “This was an opportunity for us to engage directly with the public. Hearing their experiences first-hand was incredibly valuable – it highlighted just how important the right support and advice can be.”
Fundraising
Fundraising was a key focus throughout the year, with colleagues from the firm’s three offices coming together to support a wide range of causes. From dressing in red for Red Nose Day and wearing blue for Norfolk and Waveney Mind’s Do Blue on World Mental Health Day, to taking part in a dress-down day for Children in Need, there was no shortage of enthusiasm.
Baking featured prominently in fundraising efforts, with cake sales supporting Dementia UK’s Time to Talk Day and the Great M+A Bake Off as part of the Macmillan Coffee Morning.
Fundraising wasn’t limited to cake though, with a lively internal pub quiz bringing teams together to raise funds for St Martin’s Housing Trust and Nelson’s Journey, expertly hosted by Partner Sam Holloway.
Seasonal giving included Easter egg donations to Break and festive fundraising for EACH’s Give the Gift of Care campaign.
Community engagement
Colleagues also participated in a range of community activities. In May, the firm collaborated with North Sea Coffee for a litter-picking day along the coastline from Cromer to Overstrand. Teams also took part in the Law vs. Score charity football match in support of the Community Sports Foundation, as well as Smith & Pinching’s Treasure Hunt to raise funds for their Charitable Trust – with the added bonus of a team win here!
Bringing people together
Supporting colleagues and encouraging internal camaraderie remained a priority. Social and recreational activities ranged from firm-wide events, including the summer party, to weekly running clubs, rounders, Treekly walks, and pub-and-paddle outings. Creative pursuits were also offered, including a monthly book club and pottery painting sessions.
M+A Partners takes pride in integrating ESG initiatives into the firm’s culture. With activities designed to engage a wide range of interests, colleagues are encouraged to get involved and support the many charities and organisations the firm works with. Plans for 2026 promise even more opportunities to make a meaningful difference.
