Break operates across East Anglia to improve the lives of children and young people in care, as well as those with complex needs. Central to their mission is the creation of safe and supportive environments where young people can thrive. That is why twelve members of our team were proud to take part in a Volunteer Day with the charity – contributing their time and effort to help maintain and enhance these valuable spaces.
Our team received a warm welcome from the Head of Maintenance, who oversees both homes in Long Stratton. These homes require ongoing upkeep to maintain their unique, nurturing atmosphere – particularly spaces like the sensory rooms, gardens, and day-use areas that are vital to the wellbeing of those who attend.
Sleeves were rolled up as the team got involved in a range of hands-on tasks. The day’s to-do list included: gardening and laying bark on flower beds, constructing a hammock, painting a decking area and steps for their ‘teddy bears’ picnic’ and re-securing a garden shed. The team got underway and were supplied with all the tools needed, including a radio, pizza and ice cream – perfect fuel for the warm weather!
The results were incredibly rewarding. Thank you to Break for the opportunity to contribute – it was inspiring to gain a deeper understanding of the impactful work the team carries out.
Senior Accountant, Chloe Southgate said of the day: “The volunteer day at Break was something special. I left feeling totally in awe of what these individuals do on a daily basis to support children and young adults, helping to shape and guide their future.
Volunteering with Break was an incredibly rewarding experience – it gave us the opportunity to give back in a meaningful way and contribute to the upkeep of a space that plays such an important role in young people’s lives. Taking on practical tasks meant we could all feel proud to have supported the charity in a tangible way.
We had such a lovely team of us, who were all willing to get involved and work together to get the tasks done.”
