Positive things happen when people join forces for a great cause. Our team had the chance to experience this firsthand during a Volunteer Day with local charity, Nelson’s Journey.

Our volunteers were greeted with a warm welcome from the Nelson’s Journey team and guided through the day’s activities at Smiles House in Little Plumstead.

It was clear that every task carried real meaning, and our eight volunteers were touched by what they learned about the charity’s inspiring mission. Our team helped to prepare resources for Nelson’s Journey’s therapeutic days, their 1:1 work with young people and their wonderful Smiles & Tears boxes.

Helping to prepare ‘memory jars’ – glass jars filled with layers of coloured sand to help bereaved children hold on to memories of someone special – turned out to be an unexpectedly moving part of the day. As a thoughtful gesture, Nelson’s Journey also invited our volunteers to create their own memory jars, allowing time for personal reflection.

Accounts and Tax Assistant, Leah Smith, said: “I think we achieved so much for them and to know that the time we spent volunteering has potentially freed up a day of 8 support workers helping bereaved children is absolutely invaluable.”

Partner, Scott Lindsay, said: “Stepping away from our usual routines to support such a valuable cause was a very rewarding experience. I enjoyed the opportunity of working with colleagues from different offices and departments with the understanding that our efforts could bring comfort to those navigating loss. Thank you to Nelson’s Journey for welcoming us and for the incredible work you do every day.”
