Friend in Deed is a charity with a simple but meaningful focus – to promote intergenerational relationships by bringing children into care home environments. By creating opportunities for younger and older generations to spend time together, the charity encourages connection, conversation and enjoyment, helping to bring a sense of community to care home residents.

This was the focus of a recent M+A Partners’ Volunteer Day at Corton House, where team members were joined by some of their children for a day of creativity and getting to know the residents.

The volunteering was about more than helping with practical tasks. Spending time with residents, providing company and taking part in activities together was an equally important part of the experience. With the care home’s fete approaching, the group helped with preparations before getting stuck into a range of arts and crafts, chatting with residents as they worked on their creations.

Accounts and Tax Assistant Leah Smith attended with her daughters:

“I took my two girls, aged 10 and 6, and we all came away having had a really positive experience. The day was something completely different for me and my daughters, and it was great to meet all the residents and hear their interesting stories. It was really rewarding to see how much they appreciated having the chance to talk to people they might not normally meet.

“My daughters particularly enjoyed the day, so much so that we are hoping to organise some more trips to local care homes in conjunction with Friend in Deed.”

Thank you to Friend in Deed and Corton House care home for welcoming M+A Partners and making the Volunteer Day such a memorable experience for the team.
