HMRC is due to close the Self Assessment helpline for 3 months from 12 June until 4 September.

During this time of closure, all Self Assessment queries will need to go through HMRC’s digital services, including online guidance and their digital assistance and webchat.

The closure is part of a trial to see how a ‘seasonal helpline’ could free up more of HMRC’s advisers to answer calls within other areas during the quieter summer months. According to the government, there are 50% more calls to the Self Assessment helpline between January to April compared with June to August.

Need to speak to the helpline during this period of closure? – M+A Partners can help

M+A Partners will still be able to talk directly to a HMRC adviser, regarding any Self Assessment matter on behalf of our clients, while the main helpline is closed. This is because the Agent Dedicated Line for represented taxpayers will remain open throughout this period of closure.

Should you need to speak to a HMRC agent about Self Assessment between 12 June and 4 September, please get in touch with our usual M+A Partners contact or email enquiries@mapartners.co.uk and we will be happy to help.
